H&R .38 Safety Hammerless - Info, Please . . .
I recently was offered an opportunity to obtain my first H&R break-top revolver (see photo below), which was purported to be a Safety Hamerless. The last Pat. Date on the barrel address is: APRIL 7 1897. Also, marked: .38 CAL- S & W CTGF. Serial # 71042 on outside bottom of grip frame w/factory option MoP grips. Reported to be owned by a lady in lightly used/near unused condition.
Any/all info would be be greatly appreciated as I have nothing more than as indicated above: 1. confirm model 2. date of manufacture 3. value Thanks, in advance . . . TejanoViejo |

I'm not as up on the H&R's as some of the other top breaks... just a hunch, I question weather the MOP grips are original factory... ( most I've seen were lighter in color, & had a smaller radius on the top ) the gun looks pretty nice cosmetically can you confirm the gun functions correctly ( that would be important in valuing )

I have one like yours only with the black rubber grips. If marked with on the side of the barrel 38 CAL- S & W CTG it is for smokeless powder. As far as value I bought mine earlier this year for $55.00 on Gunbroker. I won 3 guns that day for less than $160.00, the above H&R, an H&A 32 S&W top break and an IJ 32 S&W top break. Everybody must have been otherwise occupied with the 4th of July.

Unusual. Most of the ladies who owned guns like this were in quite well-used condition.

Sure it is H&R? It looks more like a Hopkins & Allen.

Jim - it's marked Harrington & Richardson on the barrel.
