remington 742 30.06 mod

So now I'm looking at a Remington 742...and don't trust it as per its reputation of chewed up receiver rails. I gather that some people have been successful in converting them into slide action rifles ala 760...other option would be to disable the gas ports and have a straight pull bolt. Are either of these reasonably feasible?

the best you could do with that is to bust it up for parts and sell them on Ebay. Sometimes them old remingtons just wear out.

I have a 36 yo rifle which has not had a day of trouble despite hard use on deer and hogs by myself and two sons. [email protected]
