Bedding a pillar bedded action
I have a 22-250 Remington 700 VSF that will not hold zero. Stringing them vertically. I talked to my cousin who is a gunsmith, and he figures it is the bedding. This thing has aluminum pillars, but with the action screws removed, the barelled action can move back and forth about 1/4 inch. Yikes. Here is my question: Can I bed this already pillar bedded action? Will the aluminum cause a problem? Or can I just do the recoil lug/mortice? Any help will be appreciated.

You can always skim bed the action completely and leave the pillars as is. The choice of 2" in front shouldn't be a problem with the action since it can sustain even a heavy barrel without any problems. You will get as many opinions on the subject as you get replies usually though.

It is buddy, thanks for asking
I have been just lurking around lately, letting everyone else do all the gabbing. How about yourself, things going well for you?

Being a CPA, things finally slowed down after 4-17. Now if it will stop raining - not complaining as we've been in a drought for the last 1.5 years - I can get back to hunting hogs. The softer, wet ground sure brings them out. Glad you're doing OK.
