1911 Officer Model 9mm Owners!

Hey guys,

My good friend is looking for a officers model chambered in 9mm...

So I've searched high and low and the only ones I've found are the Para Slim Hawg and Springer Micro Compact 9 both discontinued. A few kimbers (not really an option) and the beautiful DW ECO.

Soon as he saw the ECO he loved it.

As you might know I own several DW products and am extremely pleased with all of them. But I have little hands on knowledge with officer models except that they can be extremely finicky or just plain unreliable. One of my expectations it to function with most any 115 ball bulk ammo for practice.

While half of me has little doubt given my experience with DW in the past I would like a bit more opinions on it or alternatives from actual owners.

I think more of the 3" barrel problems are with 45s. If you've spent any time trying to park a dueley pickup in todays mall parking lots surely you can understand that it's going to be more difficult to turn that big 45 out of the mag and into the chamber than the compact 9mm when you take the room out that you do when you shorten the slide travel.
I would suspect the DW to be a very reliable gun. I'd also look at the reason that SA doesn't chamber the micro compact in 9mm any more, the EMP.

Which officer models have you had hands-on experience with that have caused you problems?

My spartan 3 9mm hasn't given me problems, but admittedly I only have 300 rounds in (if that) and I don't carry it.

novice with a kimber... gag. I'm not a kimber fan but I suspect the gun wasn't properly taken care of. one mag through it and it was a miracle. He came over asking for help it was a .45 after a few mags we just gave up.

its scaled down so it doesn't interchange with any standard 1911 parts.

Not exactly so.There's only a few parts that are not interchangeable.Most of the common one's fit.

You might look at a STI Escort and the Colt Defender.

The Colt Defender that I had was completely reliable, accurate, and a pleasure to shoot.

Wilson Combat makes a number of their models - in 9mm - and they have quite a few Officer length frames. I don't think you'll find a finer 1911 for the money than a Wilson Combat ...but it depends on your buddy's budget.

Like you said Kimber has some...not sure why you said no to them (I'm not a Kimber fan either )...but I wouldn't rule them out necessarily.

I have three 1911's chambered in 9mm - a pair of 5" guns - a Baer Monolith and a Wilson -Protector model / and a 4" Kimber Tactical Pro II model. My favorite of the 3 is the Wilson ..but all 3 are nice guns.

I'm confused --

If someone is looking for an Officers ACP size pistol, and an Officers ACP had a 3-1/2" barrel ... why is everyone discussing pistols with 3" barrels?

3" - 3.5" im flexible. I was really hoping I could find some info on the DW ECO reliability.
