Fully cock it or not?
I have always hunted muzzleloader season with my T/C inline. It has a relatively silent safety. This year howeaver you might say I am getting into the spirit of the thing and will be using a sidelock (flint) with no safety. It also has a double set trigger. I will be in a spot that is well travelled by some good size deer (for TN) but terrain dictates it will be highly unlikely I will have a shot longer than 50yds. My question is would you cock the hammer while you wait and then use the double triggers to avoid a premature discharge? My concern being the sound of the hammer "clicking" into firing postion is rather loud and no amount of grease in the lock seems to help. I do adhere 4well to Rule 3.

I'd hesitate to have it cocked.
With the smoke stick unloaded, try to pull the trigger/s back, cock it & then release the trigger into the "catch." Takes the mechanisms outa the way of each other. Some revolvers can be cocked silently this way. |

The trick labgrade states is used with lever actions when game is in close. Doesn't take much practice to get a handle on it.
