Kimber Solo vs. Sig 938

Saw both side by side. Both are nice!

Opinions?

Sig: SAO. 1911 "style". Tritium sight. My P238 has been rock solid. I am waiting for a P938 SAS to arrive at my LGS.

The Kimber has all the corners nicely melted. And it has a shorter overall length so it will fit in more pockets.

Kimber trigger is shorter pull than a Kahr, more like a Glock.

I'd trust the Sig more than the Kimber, though both of these pistols have QC quirks.

If I could be 100% sure I'd get a good one, the Solo STS would be my dream CCW, though.

I handled both recently and felt that the 938 felt much better in the hand than the Solo. The Solo had a decent(but long) trigger pull which I could have gotten used to, but I'm a fan of the 1911frame anyway. Also, the 938 comes with WAY BETTER night sights. Got the Sig!

I have the Solo CDP and love it. I have not had one failure of any kind so far. I have stuck with 124 grain and above ammo. I waited a year before purchasing the Solo because of all the early problems. My CDP was just under $1000. It has night sights and laser grips. The carry melt is wll done and the checkering on the front and back straps of the grip is nice. I think the CDP is certainly worth the extra expense over the standard model.

I have to admit the P938 is tempting though. I might have to have one of those too!

Solo Stainless seems a misnomer as the slide is aluminum, just silver anodizing as opposed to black.

I've carried a Kahr PM9 for years; can't say either the Sig or Kimber outclasses it. Ah but the heart, she is fickle.

I have a 238TL and love it. Took about four mags to break it in, but it being so short I'll give it that no problem. After that, it's never missed a beat. I would pick up a 938 with no questions asked.

Plus - I think the solo is ugly

Well I was seduced and bought the Solo. No chance to shoot it yet. Factory recommends premium defense ammo in 124 - 147 grains such as Remington Golden Sabre, Hornady TAP, or Federal HST. Many people who have bought Solos lately have had no problems with these or some other medium to heavy weights such as Speer Gold Dots.

Given that criteria, what load would be your choice? I presume DPX is out being 115 grain. That's the way I see it.

I figure it will be my low light gun as it has the laser grips, probably as a back up. If some nut opens up in a movie theater I'm in he'd better take me out quickly or there's going to be a nine ball in the corner pocket that used to be his face.

I have both. Both are absolutely reliable, the SOLO as long as you are using 124 or 147gr, the Sig will run anything. Both are capable of astounding accuracy. The SOLO is harder to control in rapid fire. The Sig is somewhat easier to shoot for extreme accuracy due mainly to the trigger. The SOLO conceals better in pocket carry. The Sig is less expensive and easier to find.

So far I've fired 200 rounds of assorted JHP and FMJ without cleaning yet, some 115 grain, no failures of any kind in my Solo. I agree this gun is not the easiest to control, recoil is on the snappy side.

I've shot both...I prefer the Sig, because of 1911 style. I'm just use to it. Mine has about 600rds now and hasnt missed a beat. They both are fine guns.
