Using white-out on a gun?

I've asked a few people about highlighting the S and the F near my safety on my VZ58, they told me i should use white-out. Is that a good idea, or should i get some duracoat or what?

And I'd really like a red on there!

There's a good thread (8 pages worth) over on HKpro about painting letters here: http://hkpro.com/forum/showthread.php?t=71848 There's many good ideas on there but I went with the Testors paint pens from Walmart and they worked out really good, plus you can get them in alot of different colors.

"...really like a red on there!.." A red what? snicker. Swipe some of the other half's red nail polish. Nail polish is lacquer. Plastic model paint, like Testor's, will do nicely too. White-out will wear off fast.

Try dipping a toothpick in the nail polish and using that as the 'pen'.

Model paint or fingernail polish works well. Just make sure you degrease the metal before painting it.

Testors red and white work well at duplicating the color used in the safety markings on Walthers and other guns. Their white is also good for sights that have white in lines or holes.

For plain paintng of sights, though, I recommend fingernail polish as there is a lot of variety and you can try several different colors at moderate cost. Also, fingernail polish is easy to remove without damage to the finish, unlike paint.

One thing that I like to use.
Jig paint. You can find it at any fishing gear store.
The stuff is tough as nails, most gun solvents wont touch it and a $1.99 bottle will last you almost forever.
Degrease well and just a touch on a toothpick. It flows really well and if you booger any, just use a Q-tip with a touch of enamel reducer on it to clean it up. (Enamel reducer will remove it when it is dry BTW)
I put it on all of my front sights on my handguns. It really helps the sight picture.
