38 Super Compensator Question
I just added a threaded barrel with a compensator to my 38 Super gun. Shoots great. Makes recoil almost unnoticable. Question: After about a 100 rounds of PMC 38 super auto +P 130gr FMJ I cleaned the gun. I noticed at the very end of the barrel, on the muzzle, lead deposits. I don't see any lead in the barrel itself. The comp is a two chamber comp. I also notice what looks faintly like lead on the back of the first chamber going out the port in the shape of the barrel grooves ( times 3). I am not shooting lead rounds. Does this mean the base of the bullet is lead and the lead is being vaporized and deposited on the end of the barrel and first chamber? I have never shot a compensated gun before. Is this normal? My lead wipe takes it right off the barrel. When I start reloading 38 Super auto +P, should I look for fully jacketed bullets?

What you are seeing is totally normal and no problem at all. When you let it get thick enough to have to sandblast it off you will have a problem. Wipe it off to keep the deposits down occasionally. Keep shooting and enjoy.

YOUR SUPPOSITIONS ARE CORRECT
Exposed lead base, vaporizing (oh I love that word) and leaving residue.
When you start reloading, ask for bullets then. May be something different...............
