Telescope for big gun?

I bought this telescope about 30 years ago at a garage sale and had it in storage ever since. Not sure exactly what it is but it appears to be military, perhaps a scope for a big gun or a tank? From where the paint is chipped it looks like it's made of brass. Anyone have any idea what this is? (got the recticle upside down in the last photo).

i thing it,s for a ww-2 tank maybe a sherman. eastbank
