help looking up the manufacturer of an old Shotgun

I have an old Heirloom shotgun that was my grandfathers, my uncle has had it for over 50 years and my assumption is early 1900 or late 1800.

I have the serial number but I cannot tell the logo. Is there another place to find it other than the buttplate.

It looks to be S&W to me but I can't be positive.
