Ruger and Smith-anyone else love them both?
Often there seems to be much controversy between the two brands on the gun boards. Is there anyone else out there that just loves them both? I've owned both- a Ruger GP-100, 4in barrel, and a Smith 629, 8 3/8 barrel. My Ruger- fiber optic sights, Hogue rubber grip......I can remember hand-polishing that gun until it gleamed...but mellowly, like sterling silver. Bank vault tough and beautiful Unfortunately, no longer a part of my stable-now it belongs to my now ex-wifes' father Ah the things love makes us do. My 629- I knew from the moment I picked it up, I had to have this gun. The internal lock gave me problems within the first three rounds.....so I pulled off the side plate and chucked it. Now it runs flawlessly. The only lock I need is my booger-hook. But you know what? No other gun has ever felt so balanced, so right in my hand....and I swear you could shoot the fleas off a dogs ass with this thing. At least, if you are a better shot than I am! So I know I can't be the only one.....who else could care less about brand loyalty and loves them both?

I like em both! I like smiths for carrying, though.

Have too many S&W's(14), Ruger's(14), Colt's(17) and the DW(2) list is growing. I can't imagine being limited to just one or two brands.

I love my Bisley Vaqueros for CAS, otherwise I'm shooting my Smiths (when I'm not shooting my Colts, that is.). Last edited by FlyFish; November 23, 2009 at 08:02 AM. |

I have love for both brands. My 686 is near and dear to me, not to mention a tack driver. And my 44 Special Lipsey's Blackhawk is my new favorite gun!
So yeah, they're both great. S&W for double action, and Ruger for single action. |

Life's too short to limit yourself to one brand. Both brands have good and bad points and fill niches the other doesn't.

S&W and Ruger and Colt and Glock and Browning
I got em all! If it's reliable and accurate it works for me.

I've always been a S&W fan, but lately I've been flirting with the Ruger SP101. I really like it and I'm think I'm going to have add one to my collection, but finding one used and/or at a reasonable price around here hasn't been easy.

I have more than one of both.
Both are very good pistols. I don't count one above the other. I like my Ruger Speed Six .357 mag. 2-3/4". Just about the right size for a .357 that you can comfortably carry & shoot. My Smith 36 & 60 are great for CCW carry. BTW, I carry my Colt Det. Special as much as my Smith's...but you didn't ask about colt. I have no brand loyalty. If it shoots and is reliable then it's OK with me. |

Nope...
I'm up to 18 revolvers now - all S&W .... no Rugers, no Colts ( although I think the Colt is a fine gun ), etc ... I'm a K and N frame S&W fanatic / pre-frame lock models only - and pre mim parts ........ I've shot a number of Rugers ....just can't go there ...(primarily because of the feel of the trigger travel, the way it breaks and the way it resets ) ...it just isn't up to a S&W standard, in my opinion. |

I have a Ruger Security Six that I bought a month ago from a range officer. Fixed sights and built like a tank. Shoots really well. Also have a Smith 629 and a 29-2. Both 6 inch. I like them all but confess the 29-2 is really super.
I gave my son a Dan Wesson .357 as well as a 44V. Both shoot well but I favor the .357. The 44V has a really nice single action trigger pull but requires two men and a boy to thumb it back. I have NEVER seen a gun so HARD to cock. I would REALLY like to get my hands on an older Colt Python. |

I like N-framed, pinned and recessed S&Ws and 3-screw, Flat-Top Rugers. With today's prices I don't get to add many "new to me" of either but sometimes the gun gods smile on you.
Mid 1950s 38/44 Heavy Duty. 1962 357 Balckhawk. The last two to go in the safe. Haven't been to the range yet but they will eventually smite my steel silhouette and pepper popper . (smile) Dave

I like them both I have eight double action 4 inch revolvers. Six S&Ws and two Rugers. Its hard too pick my favorite because I love them all. I will list them according ranking and use.
1 S&W model 10-14 4 inch. My number one home defense revolver 2. Ruger Police Service Six 4 inch. My all around revolver and carry revolver. 3. S&W model 66-4 best handling and one of the smoothest triggers. 4. S&W model 66-4 same as above (Note: I like K frame magnums) 5. S&W model 28-2 made in 1967. Most accurate revolver shooting 357 ammo. Also made the year I guaduated from high school. 6 S&W model 686-3 a great all around revolver. 7. Ruger GP100 Stainless most rugged and again great all around revolver. Will shoot just about any 357 ammo. 8. S&W pre-15 combat masterpiece made in 1951. This is the revolver I treasure the most because I was born a year before it was made. |

Not a thing wrong with loving them both. I own more Rugers but that's just the way things have evolved, not that I don't like Smiths. They're both good and each have their qualities.
