Is anyone else competing in the National Guard team shooting match?

This is my first time competing. My 4 man team will be representing my unit along with a B team of other shooters who didn't qualify expert as consistantly s those of us on the A team.

It is my first organized competition and I'm not sure what to expect. I've been told that we will be shooting the M16A2 and M9 for sure and maybe the M249 and/or M240. I haven't shot record fire for a crew served weapon since I was a specialist (many years ago). There is also some mention of adding a stress component to the event , ie a forced march or air assault insertion.

I'm not sure if this is something specifically for Florida only or if other states are doing it too in preperation for a national event. I think that the latter is the case.

I'm really looking forward to it, but since this is my first time doing this, some intel on what to expect would be great.

It's a Florida state competition, the top 2 teams and individuals will go to the national competition. Here's the details:

Due to mobilization of many of our units and the fact that interest in Match Competition has been very low to non-existent, the TAG Match has not been conducted since 2003. With emphasis on “every Soldier a Rifleman”, the rebirth of The Adjutant General Match will take place at CBJTC 24-26 August 2007. Soldiers should plan on competing as part of a four man team, with scores being counted towards individual and team points. Those wishing to compete in the TAG Match will fire both Rifle and Pistol and must come prepared with both weapons and the proper equipment. Making our firers compete with both weapons should better prepare our Soldiers for the next level of competition at the Winston P. Wilson National Match this fall. This year we hope to compete and identify up to two, four man teams that will go on to participate in the Winston P. WPW National Marksmanship Championships in Little Rock, AR, 7-12 Oct 07. These teams will have to be proficient with both the Rifle and Pistol and should become familiar, (putting into action, function checks, immediate action drills) with and know how to fire the Shotgun, M2, M9, M16/M4, M24, M240B and M249 SAW. The face of competitive marksmanship has drastically changed and has become more combat oriented. States now have to focus on the fundamental individual/team matches that they can support with the allocated ammunition. We should be getting a WARNO about the 2007 WPW but have already been told to expect an element of surprise. The following is an example of what took place:

The Combined Arms Team Match (CATM) match was a new match that was implemented last WPW. No state knew what to train for. MTU made that a secret until the day of execution.

In a nut shell, the teams received an OPORD the night before to allow them the opportunity to work out their team strategy and to give them a full understanding of the match. The CATM was conducted in 3 phases. 1- Airlift on a UH-60 to LZ. 2- Land at LZ force march 2.0 miles over uneven terrain, through an obstacle course to range 9 (RETS range) , the team must make the force march in 21 minutes, arrive at the firing point and began firing the 240B, M16, and M9 all at pop-up targets in different firing positions.

No States are firing the CATM during their TAG/State match since they don't know the true course of fire or weapons mixture and due to the fact that its resource intensive.

Team Requirements. All team matches are record matches and no team is allowed to fire for practice during this event. The team captain’s signature on the score card will be accepted as his certification that the team is properly constituted. The following requirements apply:

a. The 50% new-shooter rule applies to all team matches. New team shooters are defined as those individuals that have never fired in the state championship match beginning with the new courses of fire in 1993.

b. Pistol competitors will fire the rifle Excellence in Competition (EIC) match; rifle competitors will fire the pistol EIC match.

c. EIC matches will be fired first on Saturday, followed by team events for the remainder of the match.

d. Squad Size: Official squad composition is limited to:

WEAPON SQUAD SIZE** CPT/COACH TOTAL TEAM SIZE
Combat Rifle (M4, M16) 3 1 4
Combat Pistol (M9)* 3 1 4
