Custom holsters
I'm in the market for some gunleather. Anyone have any experience with this outfit: http://www.gunfighter.com/trailrider/tr_holster2.html I'm concerned with the time to have one custom made. Is there a maker of quality holsters for percussion revolvers that has them already made? I've got some inexpensive slim Jim style holster that I'm not to happy with.

I tote my 1860's, cartridge conversions and 1872 Open Top in an 1849 Californian from El Paso Saddlery. It's a wonderful holster but unfortunately I have no pictures of it. Takes a couple months to get but it's well worth the wait.

You want top quality you're gonna have to wait a few weeks.

I understand but that's just not the way it works. It's not really about custom features, it's the craftsmanship and custom fit. The makers of custom quality leather do so by hand, one piece at a time. Mass producing products to keep in stock just does not fit with what they do. What's the big deal anyway? Pick out what you want, order it and wait. After a short time you've forgotten about it and then UPS surprises you with a box of goodies. You can get inexpensive holsters from Oklahoma Leather and Triple-K right now but if you want custom quality, you have to endure the custom wait.

Last El Paso Saddlery order I placed took about three months but everything was stamped. I hear that now they're quoting 8-12weeks with many shipping much quicker than that. Call them, get your order in, it'll be here in plenty of time for fall.
PS, I love their 1849 Californian for percussion pistols and cartridge converions. Need to take a good picture of mine. PSS, I wasn't trying to steer you away from Mernickle. His work is excellent, I use one of his PS6's all the time. Last edited by CraigC; May 21, 2009 at 04:55 PM. |

If you have gun shows in your area, check one out. There always someone that makes custom western holsters and belts at gun shows in my area.
