Bucket of brass?

I picked up some brass from the range I shoot at today. All once fired 40S&W and PPU -223. The 223 filled a 5 gallon bucket to where it was almost over flowing. How many cases of 223 do you think it takes to fill a 5 gallon bucket? I haven’t had time to count it. I already picked up 2,800 40S&W cases the other day. The cops have been practicing.

Use a conversion ratio of 75 pieces of .223 per pound. Weigh a bucket empty. Weigh the full one. Mulitply the pounds by 75 and you have a quick answer. It'll be within 2% of the right answer.

I would be willing to wager a guess at about 1,600 cases.

We use some 3 gallon metal cylinders for .223 brass storage. When filled to their absolute maximum, they are within +/-5 of 1000 cases.

It will be a lot more than 1,600 cases.

I used your method.
The 223 weights 55lbs not counting the bucket. So 55 X 75 = 4,125 cases.
Thanks.

If I purchased once fired 223 brass it would run probably at least $70.00 per 1,000 so, I figure this should be worth around $280.00. I’ve got at least 4,000 40 S&W cases all Fed headstamp probably worth $45.00 per 1,000 so I figure this should be worth $180.00. Add both together and I get $460.00 not including shipping if I purchased this.
Sometimes it pays to pick-up brass.

Last time I weighed and counted 223 I had 10lbs with primers in them clean not polished and I had 660 cases.

Hmm, I guess those aren't 3 gallon containers we use, after all.
