I am researching all the recommendations right now.
One thing I am not sure about is the differences between the action types. Is there any good thread or link that would cover the main differences, pros and cons for these actions: Striker SA, DA/SA?

You want beefier, all metal construction? Go with an FS92/M9 Berreta if you want DA/SA operation or a 1911 if you want SA only. Either one would be a great choice.

CZ or Ruger makes nice, heavy 9mm's.

SIG P226.
The German P226 in particular is very well balanced and substantial but not overly so. Any P226 is an amazing best of the best pistol however. Last edited by sigarms228; November 25, 2012 at 10:39 AM. |

One thing I haven't go rm thought to yet is the trigger pull. Anyone know if it is pretty similar between the various makes (for DA/SA) types?

To me, the Beretta M9 / Taurus 92/99 is a big, beefy pistol. I had 2 Sig 220's that were huge too, but they were .45's.

I assume money is scarce, so I believe a Taurus PT92FS will be your best choice. It is identical to a Beretta, a licensed copy, and you can get for a lot less. Here in Houston the Berettas go for $600 and in the same Academy store they were selling the Taurus for $328 guess which one were selling.
If money is not tight then you can really indulge yourself to a 1911 in 9mm. I call the 1911s the "belle of the ball" and the sky is the limit. Regarding the DA/SA argument, most people prefer single action, but as soon as I say that some DA dork will opine to the opposite. I have both, one DA and 6 SA, YMMV. Find a friend that can show you the difference, or go hang around a shooting range and if you compliment somebody on their gun they will generally tell you all about it and then let you try it out. Trust me, gun people love to show off their toys to admirers.

Anhother gun I saw at a gun show this weekend is EAA Witness. I don't know anything about it other that it is an all metal 9mm pistol and its heavy like a 1911. Just a thought.

I owned one in 45acp... I liked it a lot.
It is a larger frame than the CZ75, its similar to the CZ97. They used to make a normal sized version along the lines of the CZ75, but I believe they stopped making that version. (someone else may know) They offer caliber conversions, and going with one frame size made for simpler logistics. If the one you seen is a few years old, it may be the small frame version. I believe the mainspring is a different style than the CZ uses, maybe a few other parts as well... so tuning, aftermarket, and smith work may be a little more difficult. |

+1 on the Taurus pt-99/100
I have a nice s.s. version that i picked up used but excellent. Built like a tank and flawless so far in shooting. Had a few hundred rounds through it, but was under 400 in private sale. I was leaning for a sig - p226 or something all metal, but a lot of people have them and are still buying other guns, so not sure if the sig is the end all of weapons and it is rather costly - looking at close to 1k for a nice version in 9mm. Not sure if I am seeing that value. May look into a CZ as they are full metal and less costly than above sig. |

Hey lets go real beefy.
double column 1911: http://www.stiguns.com/the-sti-eagle/ Six inch barrel. 8.6in minimum length. Minimum 35 ounces empty. (I say minimum as I think these are the five inch option). All steel all the time. |

You should be able to do a straight trade for either of those two guns for your G19, assuming that it is a Gen3 or 4.

My G19 is Gen 3 with only about 400 rounds. I am also thinking about the EAA Witness, but not sure if the EAA is hard to find where I live. I really prefer the SA/DA action where the first requires pulling back the slide, then DA from there.

Get a Ruger P89, throw some Houge grips on it and do the P95 trigger modification and you'll have one hell of a $400 pistol.

Is the trigger job on the Ruger fairly simple?

Swapping the mainspring on a CZ is an easy change for the better as well.
As far as EAA... the guns are usually good, but if you have issues, EAA can be a pain to deal with for customer service. CZ is known to have great service. |
