Star Washer
Put the muzzle break back on the rifle without the star/crush washer. Didn't over torque excessively but what are the chances of it messing up the barrel?

Many muzzle brakes and flash suppressors need to be indexed so that they are properly oriented to work in the manner designed. This is the purpose of the crush washer, so that you can tighten it further if needed for proper indexing. As long as the threads in your particular brake don't bottom out I can't see any reason you would damage the barrel.

Could you please clarify what you mean by "bottom out"?
