Min. Barrel Length - Handgun Hunting

Here's what I found searching by state for the minimum barrel length for Hunters with Handguns. This ignores caliber or other particulars.

Those shooting .45 Colt with 4 5/8 or 5 1/2" barrel lengths can hunt in many locations. My resident state is Indiana.

What's yours?

DE- 5.75
IL- four
IN - four
NC- Six
ND- None (Except Caliber)
OH- Five
TN- four
WA - four
WI- four

You need to check your 6" rule for NC. That was changed this year. The is no barrel length restriction for centerfire handgun hunting. The 5.5" rule still applies to .22 rimfire used for small game. I'll admit the wording is kind of misleading. I called to verify this before I bought a 4" 629.

"Deer, bear, and wild boar may be taken with a handgun during established gun hunting season provided that the handgun is not less than .24 caliber."

You could hunt with a snubnosed .38 special here if you wanted to.

Have Fun

California is 4"...I carry a Ruger Security SIx SS in .357 with a 4" bbl when hunting boar...I use it to coup them if they are still alive after I hit them with a .270. Only had to do it once...

I believe TN has dropped the 4" minimum barrel requirement even though I think 4" is THE minimum practical length.
