Help a noob learn.

I'm somewhat new to guns so this is probably a duh question. Sorry. You've all heard of the 357 Sig, a .40 case with a 9mm bullet. Well, did they ever create a cartridge out of the longer 10mm case with the same bullet to utilize more case capacity? If they did, whats it called? And what kind of performance would it have? Would it be much better?

I was thinking that the 10mm glocks could have an aftermarket barrel that could work with a cartridge like this. Dunno.

9mm on 10mm case

Yes, the 9x25mm Dillon is a 10mm case necked down to 9mm.

Nice. I was looking on ammoguide.com and compared a few things. It says the 357 magnum has a case capacity of 26.3. I'm not a reloader but i assume that it would take as much capacity to make the .357 sig reach magnum speeds right?

The .40 S&W case at 21.6 capacity becomes 21.2 necked down for loading the .357 Sig. Not much difference to me (at .4). The 10mm case capacity is 25.3 bringing it much closer to the the .357 magnum's capacity. I don't know if hotter powder makes the difference but it seems that the 10mm case would have been the way to go for the .357 Sig. The Magnum having 26.3 versus 25.3 (minus .4 for the shoulder) I guess they just wanted a shorter bullet for handguns.

BTW i've never heard of a 9x25mm Dillon. Thanks for the info.

Geesh. I looked up that 9x25 dillon cartridge:

SPECIFICATIONS
Case Capacity (est): 23.7 gr. water
NOMINAL PERFORMANCE
Bullet Weight:116 gr
Muzzle Velocity: 1583 fps
Muzzle Energy: 646 ft-lbs

And here is the .357 magnum for comparison:

Case Capacity: 26.3 gr. water
NOMINAL PERFORMANCE
Bullet Weight: 153 gr
Muzzle Velocity: 1569 fps
Muzzle Energy: 849 ft-lbs

That 9x25 dillon looks nice

not me

The 9x25 Dillon is without question the loudest handgun cartridge I've ever heard fired.

Rob Leatham experimented with it wayback and found its straight-back recoil simply too much......

Is it substantially louder than .30 Carbine out of a handgun?

...Just because everyone that's ever heard .30 Carb out of a handgun says exactly what you said-- loudest thing they've ever heard.

The loudest hangun I own is a 223 in a 10in TC. It is a real surprise considering the cartridge is so mild in a rifle.

I have also shot the 460 S&W. It is like standing by a morter when it goes off. You will feel the concussion clear thru you body.

I didn't realize they made a 10-inch .223 barrel. Mine is a 14, I've seen 16, but I don't think I've seen a 10-inch .223.
