Mossberg 590 mag feed problem
got a 590 - 50665, and am having problems with shells getting stuck in the mag.
It's only been out once and i ran a few different shells through it. (#8 federal-2.75" low brass, #4 buck fed 2.75" high brass , OO buck s&b 3" mag, and a few 3" slugs). The shells that seem to get stuck the most were the 3" shells. The high brass 2.75" shells would stick every once in a while, and I had no problems with the #8 2.75" low brass at all. Before i took it out i lubed it a bit with break free clp, but not the mag tube. Do you think that that's the problem? tia, pr2112. |

Could very well be.
The inside of the mag tube can get real dirty and rusty, as well as the spring. If it's the same as a 500, to clean it requires unscrewing it from the receiver. Since most of the length of the tube is thin and hollow, the only place it's safe to do so is from the front, where the barrel attaches. There's sufficient material to apply a turning force only at that end of the tube. |

As the OP said it has only been out once, it had better not be dirty and rusty.

I'd do a total take down(except for the trigger group) and wipe everything clean---lightly lube the critical parts when you re-assemble it-------then go run the snot out of it.

If it is brand new, then call Mossberg. Heck, even if it is not new, call Mossberg.
I would not lube the mag tube. It might need cleaning, so using a cleaner might not hurt, not CLP which leaves some stuff behind which could get on the shells. I have a 590, and have never cleaned or removed the mag tube in 15 or so years. Probably should, but it works, and it has never been dragged through the mud. Lee |
