Single shot pistol - what events, what guns, what caliber?

Hi,

I have been wanting to build a single shot pistol and do some siloette (sic) shooting and competing.

Problem is - I have no idea where to do this or how to get started.

I live in Northern California - does anyone know of any groups that do this kind of thing around here?

Also - does anyone know how the "safety certification" process affects single shot handguns in CA?

Oh - I am not stuck on siloette (how do you spell it?) I am just intersted some kind of slow fire, precision target shooting... a nice revolver game would be nice too...
