Idaho controlled hunt results are out.

I got my late cow elk tag and extra whitetail doe tag, my older brother and BIL both got their late cow and late Mule deer buck tags(mulie draw is pretty rare for our unit) and little brother got his late cow tag... looks like it's time to start developing loads.

be sure to check for draw results guys.

Which unit? Many moons ago, I killed my first elk above Swan Valley on a late cow hunt. How are the game populations there lately?

my extra deer is 11A, my elk is 11, south of Lewiston on Craig Mountain. the Mulie bucks are also 11. this is only my second year hunting for elk and got skunked last winter. hopefully this year fairs better for me. Craig Mountain is still wolf free besides the research center that keeps them pretty confined so the Elk there are in such good shape that they got rid of one of the Bull hunts and added another Cow hunt to thin some of the herds out. other parts out here are in very rough shape, 8A is decimated.

I am hunting in 60. My brother-in-law has a cabin in Island Park.

I have off September 12-24 and I am hunting the whole time or until I tag out.

It is archery season, but that is the rut over there. It is also the only time that you can take a bull. I am really looking forward to it.

with us the late cow hits at the 2nd rut. all the cows that didn't breed in the first rut are still herded up looking for bulls and the snow makes tracking a possibility.

smaller herds but easier to find. 6 of one half a dozen of the other. it's any weapon thankfully, I don't think I could even get within muzzle loader range no less archery range.

Sounds like a good draw.

In 60 Archery is any elk. Any weapon is Spike only. Muzzle loader is Spike or Antlerless. They only have a "B" tag for 60.

There are not a lot of hunters in the woods during Archery season over there. My brother-in-law thinks part of that is the elevation and part of it is the bears.

in 11A there is an any elk, any weapon season but it only lasts for 3 days. last year that's where my little brother got his first elk. it'd be nice to be able to hunt there, lots of farm land and not nearly as rough of terrain as 11.
