Subject: need help

Hi,

My name is Stephanie Roberts and I am 16 years old. I enjoy deer hunting in Tennessee. I am concerned about the number of teenagers participating in outdoor sports in our state.

Over the last ten years, Tennessee has seen a declining trend in the number of teenagers hunting and fishing. The number of kids getting their Young Sportsman License has dropped by almost 30% since 1990. This type of decline should raise red flags for every Tennessean interested in hunting or fishing.

The continued growth and ultimate survival of Tennessee's wildlife management program is dependent upon license fees. Our state is heading down the path of outrageous fees because we will have so few hunters and fishermen. The key to fixing this problem is to get more kids involved in these activities.

I ask for your help in convincing the TWRA Commission to change the age for a Young Sportsman License to run from ages 13 to 18 instead of the current 16. Since I am 16 now, my deer hunting license cost me $37.00 while my younger sister's only cost $7.00.

In order to get teenagers involved for a lifetime, their first few years should not be such a financial burden. Teenagers today have many choices where to spend their money. Commission members should set the fees to attract young hunters instead of pushing them into the arcade.

Please send me an email in support of my efforts. Thank you for your consideration of my idea. Good luck on all of your hunting and fishing trips.
