FN Commercial Mauser Bolt-- Chrome?
Does anyone know off hand if the commercial FN Mauser has a chrome bolt or is it just highly polished steel?
Mine has some minor corrosion and discoloring and is not responding to chrome polish as much as I'd like it to... I don't want to buff through the chrome by using a more aggressive method in any case... if it is chrome. |

I don't think I have ever seen a chromed bolt on a Mauser. The FNs were all polished carbon steel as far as I know. A quicky test to determine if ever in doubt is to put a drop of cold blue on an inconspicuous area. The cold blue won't discolor chrome, but it will stain carbon steel immediately.

Cold blue! Should have thought of that one... Will try immediately.
I have been spoiled by the font of information available at my fingertips... Thanks. |
