Boxer vs Berdan?

Whats the point of each? Any particular benefit of the Berdan over the Boxer?

Boxer style is easy to reload, Berdan gives more consistant and reliable ignition.

Boxer style was invented by a Brit and Berdan style was invented by a Yank.

blades67... On what basis do you base your statement "Berdan gives more consistant (sic) and reliable ignition"?

In each test that I am aware of, from one lot of Berdan primed NM ammunition manufactured back in the early 30's to experiments conducted by bench rest shooters within the last few years, there has been no shootable advantage shown for either priming system.

I have used an Oehler M43 for pressure / accuracy testing of a considerable number of cartridges over the last few years, some Berdan primed, and some Boxer primed. I have not seen indications of more consistent peak pressure, rise time, or "area under the curve" given a load that the firearm in question shoots well. Granted, this is indirect evidence insofar as ignition is concerned, but I should have seen results in the pressure tests, were they present.

Boxer Primed is Easier to Reload.

And that's exactly the reason that the Berdan primer is favored in many other countries. If their military ammo was boxer primed, and therefore easily reloaded, the potential victims of their oppression could pickup their empty brass, reload it, and SHOOT IT BACK AT THEM! Can't have that, now can they?

We already have people in Congress who wish to ban bullets so that we can't reload. Willie Boy was even having ammo cans shreaded to prevent us from refilling them. Imagine that! PLEASE don't tell them about Berdan Priming!
