Off-topic posting area?

I was disappointed that the JFK thread was closed. I found the posts to be fascinating and was looking forward to getting some information that I have not thus-far gotten from T.V. news specials and the ten or so books I have accumulated about the subject.
I have observed in other forums that there is frequently a forum area for off-topic discussions. The JFK thread was an example, gun related but a huge area of possible discussion that was not directly gun related.
Inasmuch as it was somewhat gun related, could there not be such an area on the Firing Line Forum? I for one would find such discussions of great interest.
