Replacing Target Sights on a 1911 w/ Fixed?

Hey all,

I recently picked up a new (to me) SW1911 (#108284). Its a fantastic firearm, but before I qualify with it to carry as a duty weapon I've been thinking about sights. Right now it has the Smith & Wesson target sights, which, while fantastic, I'd like to replace with some more durable fixed sights for carry.

I don't know enough about target vs fixed sights to know if this is possible. Are there any fixed sights that have the same cut I can simply have installed, or is it more economical to just deal with the target sights? (If that's the case I'm going to replace them with Tritium sights).

Thanks for the input/information in advance.

There's about every kind of sight imaginable for your gun.
Just check the usual places on the web for ideas.
Like Brownells, Midwayusa, 'etc.
Lock the doors, they're coming in the windows.

I would check with Harrison Design as they market a fixed replacement sight for a Bomar Cut. If your S&W uses that cut , it should work, but ask first.

A picture of the S&W looks like the dovetail is shallower than a real BoMar, but it would not hurt to ask Mr Harrison.

Sounds kind of strange to me. When I was learning, installing an adjustable sight was a major upgrade. Now we are leaning the other way. With fixed sights that cost more than the adjustable they replace.

C.E. Harris said that he preferred fixed sights on any but target pistols.
If he just had to use adjustable, as on a Magnum revolver, he would carefully sight it in with ammo he expected to use regularly, then epoxy the adjustments in place.

Why not just buy a spare slide?
