Need Advice...Should I sell my Mark23

First the details. I have owned it for 2 years. Its in perfect shape and shoots great. I have a suppressor and its fun to shoot.

I put it up mainly to probe what I could get for it. In the two years since I bought it I have turned into a 1911 fan. If I sell it I would buy either a les baer, an Ed Brown or a Sig X6. I have two cash offers and a handful of "more then its worth trades"

Pros

Its built like a tank
very accurate
used by special forces (not sure why this appeals to me..just does)
limited production

Cons for selling it..
If I wait and save up cash I could get whatever I want in the future.
It may go up in value over time
I like it

In addition..
I have a FNX tactical which IMHO is equal
Its not very practical

Your advice? What would you do.

Blasphemy for wanting to sell an HK, especially a Mk23.

Worst decision I made was to sell my USC--won't repeat that mistake with my USP40.

Your post makes me doubly sad, as I personally don't care for 1911s at all. :-(

Keep it. It will grow in value and make a great family heirloom.

The Mk23 is a cool gun, but if you already have the FNX Tactical, then I would trade the Hk for a nice 1911 if that's what you want.

For me personally, I did not like the grip of the Mk23. Way too big for my hand.

I love the FNX Tactical .45, and will be buying one along with a suppressor in the next 2 years.

If you can save for a 1911 and afford to keep the money tied up in MK23 at the same time, keep the gun and buy another.
If you do not like the MK23, then sell it and buy something you like.

I would sell it. Sounds like you like the FNX at least as much.

Time for you to move on to the premium 1911 you desire or the SIG Mastershop pistol.

Good luck!

How many companies make the Mk 23?

How many companies make 1911s ?

For the next 100 years you will be able to get a 1911, don't get rid of your HK Mk 23...

I am not sure how much the MK23 will appreciate as a collectors item??? I have owned a few HK's and they all depreciated like any other polymer gun. They are a great tool gun but I just don't see polymer guns ever being a heirloom. There will always be a demand for a high quality 1911. In the grand scheme of firearm history Mark 23 is a very tiny blip and its popularity is a niche. You can't CC a MK 23 so unless you are gonna use it for a rang gun, its a very limited use gun.
If you can find a buyer that will pay you what you feel is fair, sell it.

You might want to check out Cheapshooter's #1 rule of gun ownership...it's in his signature line. I've found it to be very helpful in making these types of decisions.

There is talk of HK discontinuing the MK 23. Who knows if it is true, but it is a possibility. If you like shooting it, I'd keep it. If you prefer shooting 1911's, sell it and get a 1911 you want.

My opinion, keep it and save up and buy the 1911 you want as well. You said you enjoy shooting it and it shoots very well. You may regret selling it some day. Ultimately the decision is up to you.

You must have missed the memo.
When it comes to guns, never sell, always buy.

No! No! No!
Don't even think of selling Mark23!
"Unicorn of HK's" - that's how HK fans call it.
Make efforts to save some money and purchase anything you want in future.
P.S. Sorry for emotional post but this is exactly the way I feel about Mark23.

I used to go by that for a while..ended up with 30 or so handguns. I'm down to 12 or 13 now. Do I miss a few? Sure.. Do I have a "good riddance" attitude towards others? Yes...

No other way to learn if the stove is hot I guess..this just hurts a lot less. lol

I love hk's but this gun is just too f'ing big. I wouldn't have bought it in the first place.

Its a German desert eagle. If you can schlep this you ought to have a long gun instead.

Ahoy Mr. Biscuit,

Mk 23. A boat anchor. That Mk 23 would be so gone, so fast.

I'd sell it and get an Ed Brown 1911... always wanted an Ed Brown. Like say the Ed Brown Special Forces Carry II, commander size bobtail.

I am in pain just thinking about it, cruel fates !!!

You are one lucky dude to have something of value to sell to finally realize the quest.

Best to you.

Keep the Mk23

I was reading an article on a custom 1911, all the usual raves etc, ran about $3200. The average group was 3.5 inches at 25 yds!

1911s are a dime a dozen. The triggers tend to be good vs a poly and other than that the DA/SAs are better in all regards (including accuracy out of the box vs customs).

It may be a "boat anchor" but at least its an accurate one.

Need Advice...Should I sell my Mark23

Not to hijack the OP's thread. But yesterday I put one of my favorite guns under consignment at my friends shop.

Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

It contradicts a bit what I said in my last post, then again it is a 1911. Not an MK23. If it'll generate the most money for your needs, maybe you should consider it. It hurts a bit but, see the sentence above this..

Sell it, get a USP Tactical (which will have a better trigger and be more practical), and do whatever you want with the leftovers.
