Riddle me this... Glock 30 vs Glock 27

They both hold 9+1 with flush mags, they both absorb somewhat equal recoil (overall), they both have roughly the same muzzle energy on standard ammo, and the .40 isnt that much smaller than the 45 in lenght or diameter.

So why is the G30 so much bigger than the G27? The G30 is about the same size as a G23.
Anyone know why the Glock 45's are so fat and big in general?
(Aside from their ability to handle +P, and even 45 Super in the G21)
Is all that extra girth and weight required to handle +P, and if so whats the story with the G36??

Seems to me they could stuff 7+1 of 45 into the G27? No?

The round diameter is about 15% larger, isn't it? That means in a double stack mag you will get maybe 25% wider or something. Maybe 20%. IN the chamber you need to keep the difference of the inner and outer diameter about the same, but you are starting from a 15% larger inner diameter.

I'm quite sure I didn't use the correct terminology there. Probably someone else will come along and make those points more clearly. I am sure there are other considerations also.

The G30 is halfway between G22 and G27 in size.

Not sure why the G29/G30 are so much bigger than their "baby Glock" bretheren.

I DO know that the 45 and 10mm's don't follow the same size convention as big, carry, and baby. Not sure if they were just designed that way, but I do know that I wouldn't want to be shooting 45 out of anything smaller than my G30.

The XDS 45acp is a much smaller compact 45
