9MM Case Blemish

I spent some time tonight at the reloading bench pulling some 9MM bullets. I noticed some strange blemishes on a few cases. Attached is a picture of the largest blemish. This was not there when I loaded the cases the first time. Any idea what it is and is the case still safe?

It appears more like a discoloration vs a wear or a buffed off area. If this is the case and there is no case material, brass, removed to any depth then it should be OK.

It is corrosion on the brass. Fine steel wool will remove the corrosion and allow you to see the pit that will be beneath it. I have often removed such corrosion, and then worked down the brass to the pit with en emory board to see how deep into the case-wall it was. Most of the time the pit is not deep enough to be a concern. From your picture, I think that if you remove the corrosion the pit will be shallow-ok to use and shoot.

I know that if you leave it alone, the case will function just fine.
