Options for (crappy) non removable grips on Ruger 22/45?

I hope one (or more) of you have a fix for the skinny molded grip on the basic Ruger 22/45. The Houge Handall is only a partial grip. Beginning to think I made a mistake getting this model. But they have been sold out everywhere for some time, and found one at Cabelas yesterday. Please tell me there is a fix!

A gunsmith should be able to sand, drill and tap holes in the frame to let you install "real" removable grips. Thats what I'd do. I hear ya on the rugers being hard to find. Took me awhile to track down a new MK III recently.

Can't remember the guy's name but there is gent on the forums at Rimfire Central who modifies grips the way steveNChunter described. He did mine about 18 months ago.

@ Merad- How do you like those Hogue grips? I have some on my MK III and love them. My wife fell in love with a new 22/45 target at a gun show yesterday and it followed us home. She is thinking she wants one of those Hogue rubber grips for it.

By the way where did you get one with a Ruger logo on it?

The nice thing (or sometimes a PITA if you want a different barrel/upper) is that the Ruger MK's grip frame is NOT serialized, and is not considered a "gun" for transport purposes. You can send the frame in for modification without going through an FFL, and send it any way you want, saving lots of $$$.
