Chiappa cowboy in 22lr

need info on this little single action revolver, it will be used to introduce newbies to the basics of shooting before stepping up to 38, 9mm, etc..

Chiappa is known for problems. Price looks to be on par with a Rough rider, and I would get one of those.

I actually had a Taurus model 66 in 357/38, years ago (great gun) still don't know why I got rid of it.
I just didn't want to spend a lot on a 22, I do however prefer a DA revolver.
Any and all suggestions are welcome !! Thanks

DA revolver? Ruger LCR-22 is really nice, Taurus 94 is cool, and S&W 617 is the best.

If you're looking at SA . . . I'd second the Rough Rider. I have one in a 4 3/4" barrel and I love it . . it's always in my range bag. I have more expensive pistols . . . but my RR is a great "knock around" pistol. Functions well, shoots great and is a great value . . . and I don't worry about it getting holster wear or a nick now and then. If I were starting a kid out, one would be my choice for that. Once they get the basics down . . . then I'd move them up into a decent DA 22.

Charter Arms Pathfinder or Taurus M94... two of the least expensive 22 DA revolvers new. I have heard okay things with the Charter Arms and heard so many negative things about the M94 that I wouldn't suggest you try one.

A used H&R DA revolver would be a good choice especially the M999.

I wouldn't suggest you teach kids to shoot with a snubbie revolver. That comes later.

Keep your eyes open and you might find a S&W M63 used in very good shape and that would be a good choice. Of course, the S&W M617 is about the best DA 22 made, but they are expensive as are the M63's new.

I would suggest you get a Ruger Single Six even though it is more expensive than the Heritage Rough Rider (RR). But if it comes down to nothing at all or the Rough Rider, I'd choose the RR.
