Ruger 22/45 - I need some info.

I need a little help

I just bought a used Ruger 22/45 Target Model.

It's in good condition, but other than the serial # on it - I have no idea if it's a Mark II or III.

Or when was it made?

Any advise on how to find this out.

I want to buy a couple of mag's for it

Do the 22/45 mags fit both Mark II & Mark III 22/45"s or are they different?

Mk 3 has grip screws and a mag safety.
Mk 2 doesn't.
Don't know about the mags, though.

Mark II and III magazines are not interchangeable. I'm not at home right now, but I have a 22/45 mark III and I believe that mark III is on the upper on the left rear. I don't know if the mark II had this or not. For mfg date, send Ruger an email with the serial number and they should be able to tell you.

Mine is a Mark II - it has now grip screw - just a pin holds the grips on.

I was hoping it was a Mark II - I've been told that they are fine guns.

When to when was Mark II produced

I have an MKIII 22/45 Target Model.
On the left side of the receiver is written "RUGER 22/45 MKIII"

It also has a loaded chamber indicator.

I purchased two extra MKII (22/45) magazines for it, and they work fine.

I was going to say every MK II and MKIII, I've ever seen, has "MK II" or "MK III" stamped on the right side of the receiver but maybe not all were.

To date a Ruger all you have to do is go to Rugers website. They have the charts with the s/n's and year of manufacture there. Look for the instruction manuals and product history button. I think that's what it called.

I have a MKII that does not indicate "MKII" anywhere on the pistol; and it happens to be a MKII 22/45. Then again, since it doesn't say that it is a MKII...

Well, mine are not. I have both MKII and MKIII 22/45s and the magazines are different; the MKIII has an additional "cut out/stop/lip" on the mag body approximately one inch below the leading edge of the follower, this cut out allows one to see the spring when the mag is unloaded, not so with the MKII mag. I also have a sneaking suspicion that this "feature" is what hangs up the mag when ejecting, as opposed to the MKII mag which drops freely when ejected.

The 22/45 I have is a MKII and it does not say that anywhere on it.

No that would be the mag disconnect!

I guess my 2 MkII & my New MkIII lite mags are different, I guess someone forgot to tell the guns that because my 8 MkII mags shoot just fine in my MkIII & my 2 MkIII mags shoot great in my MKII. No one tell my guns they are different.

Yes, I do realize that the mag disconnect is a real drag; literally, on the mag.

I just have a suspicion that that lip is just not "right" for lack of a better way of putting it. Yes, one can insert a MKIII 22/45 mag into a MKII 22/45.

So, what exactly is the purpose of this "lip" then; if the mags are "interchangeable", why the lip? (To really make a mess of things if the mag is inserted backward in a MKIII with mag disconnect?)

Comn-cents: you are getting good performance from either type of mag-that is GREAT!

However, they are two different part numbers and Ruger identifies that you shouldn't swap them. Does this mean it can't be done? No. A lot of us do things we are told not to.

But, despite them working for you, there is some form of difference between them.

Someone who has only one 22/45 should buy the magazine for that type: II or III. If you have both styles, then you will be in a different situation.

OP: loaded chamber slot on the left side is a dead giveaway on whether it is Mark III or not. So is mag-disconnect. However, some replace them. Check out rimfirecentral.
