An interesting side note on Titegroup: CCI/Speer, did a study about 10-12 years ago, when Titegroup was relatively new. They put out a clean sheet ahead of the firing line, shot 'x' numbers of 9mm IIRC, then measured the collected particulate. Turns out Titegroup generated about 1/4th the amount of particulate, compared to the 2nd place powder. Just in case anyone cares.

Just guessing that the second runner up wasn't Unique.
Thanks for the headsup.

Particulate would be residues, such as ash and unburned powder. That would generally translate as 'crud' in your gun, so less is better.

Titegroup is very clean burning, even in 12ga shotgun loads the ash left in the barrel is very light. I love the stuff.
It is a dense powder and does not fill cartridges or hulls much. I do not reccomend Titegroup to new shotshell reloaders as it would be very easy to double charge a round. In effect, the volume of 40 grains of Titegroup would load in a 12 ga, hull with no indication of a problem. The volume of 40 grains of Red Dot would make a "what the heck?" mess when trying to add wad/shot and crimp the hull. Last edited by rlc323; February 20, 2013 at 10:53 AM. |
