I suspect those Lugers are a lot more rare than a Series 80 Colt, which is still in production.
My memory of events is pretty dim, but I think Mauser bought Luger tooling from Switzerland, who'd been making them under license in the '20s or '30s? Initially, the Mauser guns looked like their Swiss origins, with some simplified parts and contours. Then, Mauser undertook to make the guns look more like the P08, though retaining the grip safety.
If you like Lugers, and you need another one, go for it. You can always get a used Colt for $700-$750.

In my opinion the only question would be, why are you hesitating?
