WHat's wrong with getting permission and shooting a flat corn or bean field? I guess it's easier for me to see shooting 1000 + yds. than most. It's hard for a lot of people to get permission on private property, but around here it's plentiful if you know the right people.

No corn or bean fields anywhere near here. Just hills and horse farms. And for some funny reason the frown on you shooting around million dollar horses.

As I recall, Ft. Knox is now a closed base, which means unless you have an official reason to be there, you're likely not getting on. Kind of sad, when I was younger I used to go to French range on base with my pals. The longest range I know of around my area (Louisville) is Knob Creek, but just outside of Lexington there is a place called the Bluegrass Sportsmen's League, Inc. (http://www.bgslinc.com/). Looks like they only have up to 300 yd. ranges though. You also have to be a member if my reading was correct. It looks like a very nice facility though.

I got the information from their website last week. I didn't call or e-mail them. That and the $$ for an annual fee scared me away.
EDIT: My bad... it was Anderson County Sportsman Club that wasn't accepting memberships for this year. Full. Last edited by KySilverado; March 22, 2010 at 10:35 PM. |

It is a little pricey if you hunt there.

Bluegrass Sportsmans League only has a 300 yard rifle range; strange since they're sitting on 1400 acres in Jessamine County (lots of hills). I was out there back in the fall for a paintball game. I too, would love to find a 1000 yards that's within an hour of Lexington. Tall order.
Family farm in Midway has some shots at 800 and 1500 yards; hilltop to hilltop. Too much risk though. Currently a member at Anderson County Sportsmans Club; 300 yard rifle range for $75 a year. Win.
