308 Ammo

Talk about the wrong time to finally buy my 308. I finally started getting into long range shooting and now cant find ammo... Does anyone know when this depression will end?!?!?!

Also can anyone help me with the muzzle velocity of Nosler Match Grade Ammunition 60072, 308 Winchester, Custom Competition, 175 GR, the internet is not being very helpfull with this either... lol

I found 40 boxes of 7.62x51 today at a local shop. Granted, it was American Eagle, but what the heck, it was $20 a box. I didn't buy any because I don't have a firearm in .308.

We all wish we knew. Fortunately for me, I have a lot of empty brass I can reload.

I mean this is ridiculous, ive been thinking about getting into the reloading game, guess its time to stop thinking about it... Why is everyone hoarding the shelves of ammo??? Am i missing something???

I reload buddy.. the ammo I make I couldnt afford to shoot when prices were normal. Plus, Its very enjoyable to do and increases the knowledge and appreciation for every aspect of firearms and shooting. Good Luck Buddy!

as for you going long range- Really if you don't reload I don't see how anyone can be truly precision when buying commercial rounds. You have to roll your own to fit cartridge to YOUR firearm to be spot on. As far as velocity goes, all guns are different you have to get yourself or borrow a buddies chrony for that.

I very seldom shoot factory loads in my bolt guns. I keep detailed notes and consult several manuals to cross check data. Most of the time, duplicate loads are not listed but they will be pretty close unless there is a major disconnect.

I hardly ever shoot handloads in my semi autos. I don't know what my hangup is but I have some sort of phobia about it. I don't have that issue with pistols but I never use handloads for defense.

I am just a little weird that way. I really do enjoy reloading and I reload a lot.

I don't remember the last time I bought factory ammo, and I go shooting at least weekly, weather permitting, and maybe more than once. I reload everything I shoot with the exception of shotgun ammo.

I hate to tell you this, but I can still reload .308 for 9 cents a round. That's because I bought surplus powder and bullets several years ago when they were really cheap. I use milsurp brass, Wolf primers, milsurp bullets and surplus powder. This doesn't make match ammo, but it's plenty accurate for the fun plinking I do. My eyes don't permit me to do match competition any longer, but I still like to put bullets into targets at 300 yards.

If you want to shoot when you want to, and not be dependent on your local dealer to have available the ammo you need, you definitely need to start reloading.
