Hand loading saboted bullets??
Ive been reloding rifle rounds for about 2 years or so. Mostly .223 and .300WM. I was just curious if you can load saboted rounds in these caliburs. Is it feasable? Is it safe? Is there any point to trying it? Can you even buy sabots or saboted bullets? If this something i can do can someone sugest a book or website to get me started. Thanks!

I don't know of any sabot loads for .223, that would have to be one TINY bullet.
.300WM, sure... http://www.eabco.com/remington-accelerator-sabots.html Looks like 5,000fps is a real possibility. http://www.eabco.com/Reports/sabot01.gif Accuracy reports, however, are not stellar.

Plastic fouling, no big deal. Same as sabots in a shotgun.

I shoot them out of my SKS rifles loaded with a .224 52 gr. BTHP at around 3K fps. Accuracy suffers to some extent as the sabots are for .308" bores and my SKS rifles have .312" bores but there still minute of beer can at 50 yds. and thats good enough for what I use them for. It's a good idea to flare the case mouth like your loading pistol bullets so you don't shave material off the sabot. I need to get some more.
