Yes, I feel both times it was sent in they aggravated/acerbated the problem more. Till it wouldn't even load the first round without a double pull back on the slide, and then it would close with a "thunk". Like it was literally forcing the round into the chamber. I am surprised they didn't replace the barrel and feed as well. Maybe it causes more of a "red tape" paper trail issue because the bore was recorded with that gun's S.N. and such. Maybe they didn't want to deal with all the paperwork so it is just easier for them to scrap it and give me a new one. This would be my best guess. I am leaning towards the XDm .45 3.8" Compact to keep my CCW as compacted as possible. If it is as nice as all the threads here and elsewhere I have been reading about it...I may even purchase one in 9mm format for my wife and my mother. My mother is home alone a lot of the time as my father is a Helicopter contractor (chief pilot/site manager) for Academi and in Afghanistan a lot. |

Thunk
Quote:
Just as an FYI...when a pistol fails to go to or return to battery...run a quick test to see whether it's a 3-Point Jam or (most often) a simple extractor issue: Use a short length of wood to bump the muzzle straight back. You don't have to hit it hard. If the slide snaps to battery, it's a 3-Point. If it doesn't, it's probably the extractor. Most often, if it's the extractor, you can push or bump the slide into battery. With a 3-Point...you can't. That "thunk" sound also identifies a 3-Point Jam. It's just not severe enough to stop the slide...but it is damaging the lugs.

Update 2/12/13
Well after 2 weeks of trying to get Springfield to confirm whether they received the FFL from one of the local GS's near me...my rep FINALLY confirmed he got it. NOW...he gives me some "story" that it is out of his hands now and he "thinks" that I should get it within 2 additional weeks. (Yea right! I am thinking 2 weeks + multiple phone calls + 2-3 weeks more!) It has now been over a month since I last held my S.A. 1911. Now it may be another month before I hold my new XDm. *SIGH* |

FINALLY!! Woo Hoo!!
Just picked up my new Xdm this afternoon. I haven't fired it yet but I love it already! It feels GREAT in my hand and looks solid. Here are some photos of it. It is slightly larger than my Ultra Compact 1911, which I kind of like better. I also love the Picatinny style rail & the speed loader tool is a blessing from God! Images to come soon...the ones I took with my phone are HUGE online here! LoL |
