Union Switch & Signal slide on a Colt frame
I came across a 1911 with serial #44128 on the frame. According to what I found on line, this frame was made in 1913. The kicker is that it has a Union Switch and Signal slide on it. The gun is in remarkable shape with some very slight holster wear on the muzzle with original grips. I believe that the slide has been re-parked at some point because there is noticeable wear to the words "U.S. Army" on the right side of the slide, but it has a nice even patina. Is this a possible fake? If not and assuming it has been re-parked, is $1799.00 a bad/fair/decent/great price?
btw...it comes with an old and definitely original Colt holster that has a date of 1918 on the back of it. |

That's a mixmaster. Refinished to boot. They are very common and come in different flavors. Worth less than half that price.

It's still a parts gun. The slide would be worth a few hundred IF it was not refinished. The collector value is for complete original guns.
Mixmasters are seldom worth more than $800. Edit to add: A lgs recently had a 1914 Colt frame with a US&S slide and sold it for $450. That was a good price. Jim Last edited by laytonj1; January 25, 2013 at 04:54 PM. |

A parts pistol has no collectors value,it's a shooter.
A good looking Union Switch goes for more than that,really.But it has to be original,so if you got eighteen bills to spend on a pistol then you have plenty of other options to get your money's worth.good luck |

LGS = Local Gun Store
http://thefiringline.com/forums/faq....earms_acronyms Link is to a listing of gun related acronyms you're likely to find around here. (LGS strangely being absent...) |
