New SKS looking for model

I just purchased 2 sks' from friends/family members. Is there a way to tell by the serial number who made them, where they were made, etc. I'd like to get as much information as I can about these 2 guns but i'm not sure where to find the information with only having the guns and the serial numbers. Can anyone help?

They appear to be chinese sks but it's hard to tell. Do they have a chrome lined barrel what are the markings on the reciever? Norinco maybe.

Can you get a clear picture of the top of the receivers where we can see the arsenal proof markings?

From those pictures, it appears you might have a Russian in the original wood stock with a blade bayonet (niiiice) and a Chinese in a crappy plastic stock and spike bayonet.

Once you have determined the country of origin and factory (from the proof markings), you can then use the serial numbers to find out when it was made.

The markings on the left side of the receiver contain all the information needed to identify them. A far away fuzzy dark cell phone picture of the right side does not help.

^^^I agree with that guy, all of the reciever markings are on the left side of the reciever, those are the smoking guns(so to speak). however the second is definitely Chinese, post 1965, that is the year that they switched from blade bayonets to spike bayonets. early russians used the spikes too but IIRC they were straight black, no white metal.

the first has the original stock but it's been painted and probably not refurbishable. the dust cover is either aftermarket or has been drilled and tapped for a scope mount, either way, it has been modified significantly and has little collectors value left. still probably a good shooter though. the only thing I can say for sure is that it is not an Albanian, they had longer handguards(top piece of wood) than the rest. if I had to guess I would say that it's probably another Chinese, pre 65 based on the bayonet style, or russian. clear, in focus pictures of the left side of the receivers would make it easier to identify.

I will take clear pictures of the left side of the SKS' tonight for more information. I do know that the one with the long bayonet is an aftermarket bayonet. The rifle was originally purchased at an estate auction by the previous owner, who added the aftermarket bayonet. Like I said, I will post more pictures tonight on the left side of the rifles. The first one with the blade bayonet is either a M59 Yugoslavian or a Russian SKS. The second with the spike bayonet is most likely Chinese.

You need to look at the markings on the receiver to be sure.

No Cyrillic markings, maybe Yugoslavian M59 Is there any upside down "U" markings on the rear sight in the center near the rear blade? That would be indicative of a Russian SKS.

Is the stock painted black? Any stampings on the buttstock like serial number

The picture of that SKS nearly brought me to tears.
Mine isn't perfect but this is what they should look like.
I'll post up better pics of the arsenal markings later.

These 2 that I bought are definitely not the prettiest things in the world that is for sure. However, when you can get them very cheap, who wouldn't purchase them. I was also disgusted in the condition of these, but a little TLC might go a long ways.
