Trade Glock 17 gen 4 for SR9c?

I think you just answered your own question right there. We all could argue all day whether or not the Ruger is better, but if you love your Glock 17 and just want something smaller, get a Glock 19; it's exactly like the 17 except a shorter grip and a shorter slide, but it still feels and shoots like a full-size gun and will be the closest thing possible to your 17.

If the 19 is still too big, get a 26; that's the next-closest gun to your 17. Some people don't like the fact your pinky hangs off the grip, but it's easy to find grip extensions. And the mags from the larger guns will fit into the smaller ones.

When you rack the slide on the g19 and sr9c back to back you can feel the difference in quality. Way more aftermarket stuff for the Glock. Don't get me wrong, I love the sr9c too.

It feels and sounds better. It is a better made slide. Simpler tear down. I am more accurate with the Glock than the SR9C for some reason. Don't be so defensive about it, I like the Ruger too. The guide rod spring is gouging the guide rod on the ruger which worries me. Called the factory and they said it is normal. The Glock spring and guide rod show no signs of wear.

While I don't know how much +, I think 9mm may be right on the gun value. A Gen 4 Glock 17 is hard to find, and I have seen quite a few folks asking for that much selling their (yes, used) Gen 4 17's. If we estimate the value of his SR9c to be about $500, with 200 rds of ammo (an extra $60-80, depending on the ammo), you're still shy an extra $100-$200 in value.

I don't have a dog in the Glock/Ruger fight (CZ-75's are better than either anyways ), but I would hold onto the Glock, and save your money for a better CC pistol. Check some of the local gun shops for used guns, watch armslist and gunbroker, and be patient. You might also want to consider a different holster to make CCing your G17 easier. I hated attempting to CC my CZ75, until I got my new Old Faithful Holster. It's been great for me, and my CZ disappears under a t-shirt.

I don't perceive a difference in quality when I rack the slides of my SR9c or G23. The Ruger's trigger is superior. The finish treatment on the Glock is superior.

Again, though... For concealed carry, it's no contest.

I haven't racked the slide on an SR9C (my shop doesn't carry them), but I have to point out that if you judge the gun by how the slide feels when you rack it, the Glock 17 should be a piece of junk; it feels rough and sounds like a rusty door hinge.

Rack the slide on a Glock 17 and then rack the slide on a Beretta 92FS or a good 1911; there's no comparison.

That said, the Glock 17 is an extremely well-made, well-designed gun that works extremely well. It just goes to show you shouldn't judge a gun by how it feels when you rack the slide.

I would sell the Glock and then use the money to buy the best concealel carry gun you can find. For me it is the Keltec PF-9 with CT laser and belt clip. All for under $500 (pre-hysteria prices).



Having said that, if you can, keep the Glock and buy the Keltec, because it is a gun you shoot because you have to, not fun to shoot, lots of recoil. If you want one gun to do both (fun and CC) then Glock 19 is definately the way to go. Instead of a holster get a belt clip from Sinclair, it is cheaper, more comfortable and less bulky.

Yes. People really have paid up to that much for Glocks recently. Sigs haven't been as effected, from what I've seen. This probably has to do with the fact that their price is typically toward the high end of what people are willing to pay, without market craziness.

Call me crazy, but I don't get caught up in "price = quality" as a strict truth. General truth, sure. There are some qualifiers, though. Some materials cost more than others. Some brand names carry premiums. Lower production runs generally require higher per unit return than large runs, for the manufacturer to make the money they want. Consequently, a Sig 226, which has a metal frame, more machining of the metal, more total parts, and lower production runs than a Glock, is going to cost more than a Glock.

Does all of that extra work mean that it's superior? Well... superior = better. Which is better depends on context and how we value specific attributes.

Which is better for me? A G23, or a Sig 229 in .40? I am drawn to firearms that are practical for me. As a civilian, my applications are concealed carry, home defense, range use/recreation, and emergency utility (emergency services down). My preference is to buy things that work in each of those applications.

- The 229 is substantially heavier than the G23
- the Sig has more protruding parts (this is a low value point-- not a big deal)
- 12+1 (Sig) vs 13+1 (G23) before factoring in extended mags
- I prefer striker fired triggers to DA/SA or DAO, and I don't love the single action pull of the 229. I shoot striker fired pistols as well as I shoot Sigs and HKs in SA.
- repairs are cheaper for the Glock

Now... For ME, the Glock is better at an equal price point. If I preferred DA/SA, or wasn't bothered by carrying the extra weight of the 229, I might feel differently. As it stands, the Sig would be a range or home defense gun, but I wouldn't carry it.

Naturally, all of this applies to the G17 vs SR9c, as well. If you get more use out of one, then it has more value to you. If you're more likely to carry the SR9c, that's the better piece to own... IF you can only have one.

Amazing the state of panic our liberal administration has induced. I guess he should sell high and get these big bucks. Then he can get whatever he likes. It's not like Glocks will never be readily available again one day if he wants to get back in.

I found the sr9c too thick for carry and traded out to get an lc9. Not as good a shooter by far but much better for ccw.
