I have a type 54, and I'll tell ya, it's never had ANY problems. That thing is probably the funnest gun to shoot that I own next to my brother's Baikal Makarov. Don't let the naysayers sway you, it's a serious gun in a serious caliber. It is more uncomfortable to hold than my 1911, but changing the grips out would probably remedy the situation. I don't care enough to do so as it is my last ditch gun hidden in a book case. I'm reaching for the Mossberg 9 times out of 10.

LOL,the most obvious reverse psychology thread ever created.
Those Tokarevs are legendary for their sturdiness and reliability. Now if I could find one for the original $200 they used to sell for instead of the $400 and up some people try to sell them for I might buy one. |

The Tokarov is actually a John Browning type design if I'm not mistaken. Very similar to the Colt 1903 auto actually mechanically.

I have lost track of how many and what kind of Tokarevs I own.
I have tried to blow them up, and can't do it. But I have bags of CZ52s I have blown up. [ The Tokarev is stronger, never mind what the books say.] So I have mutilated a numbers of them with modifications.. dual mass slide, stuff like that. My favorite mod is to ream out a 9x19mm barrel to 9x23mm, handload with win brass, and take it to the limit. Here is a pic of one that could recover, if I put the original parts back on. That is a Parker Hale sniper trainer Mauser 308 barrel cut down and reamed to 30 Mauser and then a recoil lug mount TIG welded on. Then I made an Aluminium scope mount.

While I've never been attracted to them, the Tok has always had the reputation for being tough as nails.

The Tokarev is a very good gun
Twenty some odd years experience with the Canukistani 9mm Browning, a great gun, IMHO. The Tok is similar to fire with a bit more recoil but easy to get used to. Very heavy trigger but I happen to like that as I use the half cock as a safety. I've banged away on the weapon in half cock (yes, it was not loaded) and mine just doesn't fire from there. I'd trust my life to that thing; it just keeps going no matter what. Great gun, great, hot ammo.

Tokarev
Loud is good it "The Romainian Tokarev" has amazing stopping power it can cut through Kevlar like nothing i've ever seen before & if you know anything about shooting you will learn how to be accurate with it Here is a review of the Tokarev and this guy hits almost everything-he aims at during the review the guy pops off around 35-40 rounds . Most interesting and enjoyable pistol. 50 different countries that use it cant be wrong... It is basically a mini 1911

First, I believe the Tokagypt version was made in Hungary for expoprt to Egypt, but Egypt cancelled the contract, and Hungary sold the pistols on the European market. Second, the later Chinese commercial guns blown into this country after we re-established trade were of mixed quality. Many original Chinese/Viet Nam bringbacks were nicely made, but some suffered "jungle" wear, and were rough outside. I owned an early, very nice Chinese gun that was beautifully blued, but as the OP noted, was less comfortable to shoot than many pistols. However, they are strong, simple, and will put a round through many things that other guns will not. The 7.62 Tokarev round is a screamer in its stronger military loadings.

TOK
Yes 14 months old thread However, we are talking about a 80 year old handgun & still the facts remain. How ever if we were talking about "gun laws" instead of the actual handgun itself then I can see how time may be an issue. Especially these days

The Yugo M57 is much easier to shoot. At full power, there is significantly less recoil than my Glock 19.
