I was a bad boy

and posted this in the wrong forum. Sorry about that....

Anyway, what happened is that I brought a couple of handguns home that are in near-relic condition. I was at a friends house the other day and he was showing me guns that he had picked up in a rather complex deal with another fellow. Out of the clutter, he picked up this pair of C96 Mauser Bolos and offered them to me.

Being the sucker that I am for neglected and abused guns, I took pity on them and brought them home. Now the question is, what do I do with them? My friend is very familiar with guns that come out of China from the pre-WWII days. He theorizes that the Chinese had only one cleaning rod in the entire country and no one knew how to use it.

These two fine examples show the care and attention that they were shown during their tenure in China. One has 100% of the original rust bluing completely missing along with a couple of small parts. The other is nearly as well cared for, with 99% of the finish missing, but otherwise complete. Both have absolutely no bores to speak of and I am nearly positive that you would have trouble hitting the ground with either one. I only have about a hundred dollars in them as I traded some stuff I had laying around.

Not real sure what I'm going to do with them, although I'll probably get one relined back to .30 Luger and shoot it.

actually given their age the overall condition isn't bad at all, the smooth bores ae a serious problem to be sure but a skilled gunsmith could fix that. for $100 you made a very good deal. the MISC small parts missing will be a pain to find replacements for and of course barrel repairs will probably run you $100+ per gun and will probably had to settle for 30 tokarev rather than 30 mauser but over all I would say that they will turn out to be quite an investment.

Thanks for the offer, but I think I'm going to keep both of them. One is going to be relined back to .30 Mauser and the other I think I'll get bored to 9mm.

Oddly enough, they both still have the original matching number grips. Probably because no one in China at the time had a screwdriver.

All I need is the extractor and the firing pin for the one that is missing parts, so I have decided to resurrect it as a short barrel "Red 9".
