Need Help Choosing- Taurus PT809 or 24/7
I'm new to handguns and am looking at buying a cheaper one.
I think I've decided on a Taurus but can't decide if I should buy the PT809 or the 24/7. Any thoughts? Can these handle the +P or should I go for the .40 versions? Or is it better to spend an extra $100-200 and go for PX4 Storm?? |

Quote:
FWIW some manuals use somewhat opaque language such as "...this pistol may be safely used with any 9x19mm ammunition loaded per SAAMI, CIP, or NATO industry standards." 9mm+P is loaded within SAAMI industry standards, so unless the manual specifically says "no +P" elsewhere, this statement says you can use it. Also, 9mm NATO is basically the same thing as 9mm+P, it's just loaded with a round-nose FMJ bullet rather than a jacketed hollow point (JHP) bullet like most +P loads. OTOH +P+ is NOT loaded within industry standards and most likely WILL void the pistol's warranty, unless its use is officially endorsed in the manual, which is rare. Quote:

I'll offer a personal opinion here.
To be honest, the Beretta and any Taurus are in two different leagues if you ask me. Now don't get me wrong; I have a Taurus TCP, it's been a truly phenomenal gun and I love it, but over-all a Taurus is just NOT a Beretta, or a Glock, or a S&W, or a Sig, or an H&K etc. You pay less because you get less. But that being said, there are a good number of guys and gals that have a Taurus and they love it. I like my TCP enough that I will eventually try another model of Taurus just because I want to. |

Maybe I can talk to the wife and see if we can save up for a Beretta.
Hopefully before they're illegal. Or maybe I'll just buy the Taurus now while I can. lol |

Buy the Beretta
I'm not a Taurus basher but IMO they are not in the same league as Beretta.

9mm, its cheaper and easier follow up shots, friend had the 24/7 he got rid of it because magazine would pop out/feeding problems, factory fix didn't work.

Ok, so with all of the gun ban talk I was able to persuade my wife into getting the Beretta PX4 Storm
![]() I choose the .40 Caliber version. 14+1. Paid $499 for it at the local sporting goods store. ![]() I'll be able to pick it up on a few days and then will head to the range. Thanks for all of your info/help! |

I don't actually have it in my possession yet lol
I didn't have a permit to purchase so they are holding the gun and my money for a bit. The paperwork on my concealed carry should be done in a week so once I get the license I can just go in and pick it up

My pt99 is just as good as a berretta. The only difference is the roll stamp and safety placement....and is the reason I chose it over the berretta.
As for a poly Taurus......I have owned one and hated it. It was reliable enough.....just shot way low and hated the Hine figure 8 sites..... I would buy 99 from Taurus again and again......but not a poly.

I have both of what you are asking about. I would go with the 809, it features totally ambidextrous controls, changeable backstraps, field strip procedure is similar to Glock, and I happen to like hammer fired handguns. Plus, they still manufacture the 809. The 24/7 series is discontinued. I found the 809 slightly more accurate out of the box.

The 24/7 is discontinued?? It's still on the website.....
Not arguing....just surprised. Doesn't seem like they were around that long. |
