I would expect the correct female thread (1/4-20, IIRC) to be built-in.
The bore sighter will work with the pistol, too, though you need a different rest or sandbags with it. The reason for the laser is the pure convenience of avoiding going back and forth from the bench to the tripod several times to get the chronograph screens aligned with your firing point and target or else having to have a second person involved. However, as you are new to this you may want to suffer through the old trial and error method for awhile until you feel you've earned your bones. Just remember your sights have height and you want the target to appear behind the screens with that much extra height to avoid the rounds flying closer than necessary to the sensor apparatus. Also, if you have any tendency to flinch, now's the time to abandon that and get true surprise shot release. Also, several folks have recommended replacing diffuser holder wires with wood dowels so a bullet can break them easily and without transmitting much shock to the sensors.
