178 amax and 175 SMK 300win mag
Wondering if anyone has tried or has had any luck with 178 amax or 175 smk's out of a 300 win mag. I've tried the 208 amax in front of H1000 with good results but i'm looking for something a little flatter shooting that will still buck the wind well. Shooting out of a rem 700 bdl 26" barrel.

I myself haven't tried them yet but I 'd try a Hybrid ina 185gn-200gn that berger makes.

The Hornady 208gr A-Max has pretty high BC @.650. Have you run any ballistic tables to compare on paper how the other two do against what your getting now?

I haven't looked at any bassistic tables yet. I like everything about 208 amax except the price. And I have about 800 168 smk layin around that my neighbor gave me so I loaded some in front of 75.5 gr of H4895 about a 5/8" 3 shot group @ 100 yards haven't used thru the chrono yet but my book says it should be around 3100 fps.

At more than 16.5gr over max, you must have one strong gun, or you made a typo. |
