Work on the Hy Hunter.....

This is my new Hy Hunter trial fitted with a brass trigger guard:

The Hy Hunter mainspring screw would not fit the trigger guard, so ordered a Uberti replacement part. The Uberti screw almost fit. I went to my local hardware store and we tried various size nuts until one ran up on the screw, and found the thread was 10-24NC. So I bought a 10-24NC tap and chased the threads in the trigger guard. Also a brass Uberti backstrap had arrived and I have assembled the whole assembly. Needs some fitting and match polishing, but everything fits and the action works. Also need to make a pair of grips. Thinking of making a one piece style of grip. Will post more photos soon.

I was hoping you would give us an update on this project. Glad to hear that you also found a brass backstrap. I'm anxious to see the end result.

So then, I suppose I need to source a set of brass grips for my Hy Hunter, two sets if I like it in order to fix up another one I have. The .45 comes first. Are these parts from a Uberti Navy Colt or what?

I didn't know what the source of the trigger guard was so I tried a screw from a Uberti and it fit, so ordered a new screw and mainspring screw for a Uberti. As I said I had to run a tap into the hole to clean up the threads.

The bottom backstrap screw is too long and collided with the mainspring screw, so have to shorten that. Currently I'm working up some walnut.

Incidentally, Numrich (Gun Parts Corp.) lists both trigger guard and backstrap in brass for a Hy Hunter.
