Dual Optics...

I have been running dual optics on my latest AR just to see how I would like it and gotta say I love it. I use the firearm for mostly plinking and yote hunting. Looking to really stretch it's legs this winter for hunting. I am going to build a lightweight AR and mount light 3-9 Vortex and a Burris FastFire II.

Currently this rig has a 3.5-10x50 Vortex Viper and a Bushnell TRS-25 and it works awesome, just a little heavy. I prefer a little heavy for what I use this gun for but....wanna try it light.

Anyone else run dual optics?

I'm actually more curious about the rifle. That looks like a nice rig. Which RRA is that? What profile barrel? What forearm?

If you're totally unable to learn to mount the rifle in such a away as to be able to find the target in the scope, this option might be of value. Back in the old days when an 8X scope had a field of view about like looking down a water pipe, there might have been a real need for such a setup as the one shown. With the variables and much wider fields of view available now, I just can't see the need(for hunting).
I've shot several deer using fixed power scopes at very short range as they jumped from their bed or from cover. At no time did I feel the process would have been made easier by adding a second sighting system that required me to decide which sight I would use in the split second opportunity to shoot and then twist my rifle awkwardly on it's side to access the secondary system.

Out of curiosity, why do you prefer mounting the Bushnell on the side rather than on top of the scope?

PhD.....because you usually end up with a chin weld rather than a cheek weld when the 2nd optic is piggy backed on top.

I gotta say I don't see a need for it either. I think if I were in need of both CQB and longer range I would go with a true 1-4 or 1-6 variable power scope. Just my opinion, but hey if you like it and it works for you then great.
