Mountain Eagle Rifle
I have an opportunity to buy a Magnum Research Mountain Eagle Rifle in 30-06. Do any of y'all know anything about these rifles or have any experience with them? I have searched and not found much, other than it seems to be at a good price.

It is the one built on the Sako action with a Krieger bbl. Like I said the guy wants a fair price for it, but other than that I don't know if they have a reputation for being accurate or not.

Buying use rifle is iffy and only thing I heard negative was their weight think they were close to 10lbs.
Those Sako action were build to MR,Inc spec so their not what you find in normal older sako action and I think pricing reflects that. Was one on 6br site Sept for $950.00 in 300mag.

Well, the guy has agreed to let me shoot it before I buy it
So I'm gonna slap a scope on it tomorrow and go find out if it will shoot. I haven't handled it yet so I don't know how much it weighs.

Well, at least the seller let you shoot the rifle. Good luck post how it shoots.

Well here it is. I put a VX3 4.5x14x40LR with a fine duplex on top and took it out.
It is not what I would call a pretty rifle. I tend to prefer wood. However the lines and edges are nice. It is a hair on the heavy side for my taste but it is manageable. It weighs 9lb 13 oz with the scope. The trigger breaks at 48 oz on my gauge It will definitely shoot. I shot multiple 1/2 inch 3 shot groups. Some possibly smaller some slightly larger. I used multiple types of factory ammo in 150g. Amazingly, it really liked the Remington Coreloks and the Hornady Superformance SST. There was little variation betwen them other than the Federal Fusions. It shot about 1 inch with those. I shot steadily around 80 rounds from 5 different varieties. It heats up quick, but it was also 93 degrees outside. When really hot it will open up to 1.5 inches with just about anything. This is after 10 rounds with about 10 seconds between them. To cool it, I put it in the truck under the air conditioning for about five minutes and it was ready to go. Who knows, it may have just been my shooting. I did not clean it as I was doing this and cleaned when I got home and had very little copper or fouling. Overall, I'm pretty happy with this rifle/scope combo. Will probably make it my dedicate all round deer rifle. |

Sounds good
![]() Make special note of your Cold-Bore Zero, as that's generally what you have when hunting, a cold bore...set your scope for that. On another note... I absolutely have no idea why folks worry about rifles that weigh under 12 pounds... 95% of hunters ride an ATV/golfcart/etc to their stand, then climb into the stand, and SIT there waiting for the game to pass by... hence rifle weight should really be no issue to them...and if it is, they've got bigger problems than rifle weight. The world of hunters would be better on the whole if more people took up Stalking... but that might require moving quietly and taking the Ipod earbuds off
