I Held The Shield Today

I was at my LGS grand opening today ( they took over the Gander Mountain building ) and held the Shield. I didn't like the way it felt in my hand. It felt like I was holding a 1x3 piece of wood. Maybe a grip sleeve would help, but it needs some roundness IMO. I didn't like the safety either, but other than those 2 things I liked it.

I've mess with one a bit and can't make up my mind about them, but it seems to me that there are a lot of other similar sized pistols out there, so I think I'll find another that fit my hand better.

How did the new Greentop look? I drove by there today on 95 but did not stop. I hope they do well in the old Gander Mt building.

They are flat as a compromise for concealment. That is what they are designed for,not hand filling range comfort like a target pistol. If you go adding palm swelling grip sleeves made of rubber or neoprene, it starts to catch on clothing and print from under your clothes defeating its purpose. For comfort, buy the M&P compact or fullsize. They shoot very nice.

The store was jammed packed. I had too park in the far lot @ 4:00. It is pretty much the same GT with more room. They would have never got that many people or cars in the parking lot at the old store. I could look & handle the long guns easily with all the people, but it was hard too look at the handguns.

My Kahr P9 doesn't feel like holding a flat board and it's pretty thin. Not saying it's better, just feels better in my hand.

redrick,

I'm with you. I think the larger double-stack M&P pistols feel great in hand, but something was lost in translation to the Sheild. I think the Kahr PM9/CM9 and the Walther PPS feel much better in hand by comparison.

The Shield was too small for me as well, that's why I walked out with the M&P9c.

I fully understand that I'm in the minority on this, but I just can't warm up to all of these small guns. They sell very well, and they have their place...but for me, it's full-size all the way. To me, tiny guns are for BUG use only; yet lots of folks use them as their primary carry. Oh, well...to each their own, I guess.

It is great to have choices and we are indeed blessed with plenty right now. I looked a long time to find a Shield and just did not like the overall feel of the gun. I ended up getting a GLOCK G26 which just felt more like a “real” gun to me. I just put 120 rounds through the G26 two days ago and the thing was flawless and surprising accurate.

Yeah, those G26's just eat up everything, don't they? I have one and absolutely love it! Which is evident by the amount of money I have spent on it!

Sorry to hijack your post, man. When someone praises the Glock 26, I just can't help myself!

I often get grief for saying this, but one of the problems I see with the shrinking pistols is that one of the advantages of pistols over revolvers is capacity, yet we are getting closer and closer to revolver capacity as we shrink the pistols. Everyone has to choose for themselves where to draw that line, I suppose.

But as another post mentioned, having choices is a fine thing. I won't impose my choice on anyone else; that is one of the differences between 2A advocates and anti-gunners.

Blasphemy! Just kidding. I thought that the shield felt great in my hand. Much better than any other small pistol Ive tried.

I just got to hold one yesterday for the first time. I was pleasantly surprised. It filled my hand quite well in spite of being a flat carry pistol. If they ever put out a no-safety model then I just might have to get one.

I bought an LC9 but I have fired the Shield. It's easier to shoot than the Ruger due to the better trigger. I like the manual safety on both. I carry the LC9 with the safety on. That's just me. The LC9 has a real long revolver like pull, the Shield is more Glocklike. I wouldn't carry a glock with a round in the chamber. I think they are an accident waiting to happen.

LOL God forbid someone give their opinion about a gun on a gun forum site.

And yet thousands of people carry them every day without incident. Glocks fire when the trigger is pulled, and they don't fire without the trigger being pulled. That is a feature that I have run across in a lot of pistols.
